From a defined universe to an active research list.

Finviz offers a broad market screening and visualization surface. Elite adds real-time data including extended hours, advanced filters, interactive charts, exports, and email/push alerts, including notifications for new filter matches. It supports monitoring as well as screening.

Gapperz organizes the workspace around active equities research. Sixteen live scanner views surface recognizable conditions; selecting a result brings the chart and available company context into the same routine. Focus lists and alerts help you revisit the observations you care about. Pro adds saved custom scans and AI research.

The useful distinction is the work you want to complete. A broad screen helps define an initial universe. A continuously changing scanner helps you follow activity within the session. A selected-name alert answers a narrower monitoring question. Gapperz's connected workflow gives those observations a clear place to go after the initial result appears.

Finviz Elite costs less than Gapperz's current monthly plans. The case for Gapperz is its connected small-cap research workflow: preset discovery, linked context, and ongoing monitoring. Choose around those tasks, and include Pro when you need saved custom scans or the additional research tools.

Give each observation a next step.

Use the Gapperz tour to follow the same fictional symbol through discovery, context, and monitoring. The value of the workflow becomes clear when you complete the loop.

  1. Choose a session question.

Start with premarket activity, a developing momentum move, or high relative volume. Read the scanner's definition so its result answers your intended question. A stock can meet more than one condition for different reasons.

  2. Read participation beside price.

Inspect absolute volume alongside relative volume and the current spread. A large ratio on a small denominator describes a different situation from the same ratio on substantial trading activity. Use the chart to locate the observation within the session.

  3. Connect the row to its source context.

Open the available news or filing context and check the issuer, publication time, and underlying event date. Keep facts from the document separate from your observations of price and volume. That makes later reviews easier to follow.

  4. Carry the question forward.

Use a focus list for names you want to revisit and an alert for a specific condition. Pro's saved custom scans let you retain your own recurring filter combinations. Keep the next check clear enough that a later alert has useful context.

Compare definitions before comparing results.

Two products can use a familiar field name while measuring different windows or inputs. A short definition checklist makes your evaluation much more useful.

  1. Write down the baseline.

For relative volume, record the reference period and whether the comparison is aligned to the same time of day. For a gap, identify the price reference. A mismatch here can explain different rows without indicating a broken scanner.

  2. Match the session and freshness.

Record whether you are studying premarket, regular trading, or after-hours activity. Compare timestamps and the relevant subscription's data terms. Revisit the same observation after a new update to see how the workspace communicates change.

  3. Try discovery and follow-up together.

Open a result, inspect its context, add it to a focus list, and configure a monitoring condition. Include the reading and revisiting steps in your evaluation rather than judging the workflow from its initial list alone.

A few useful answers.

Does Finviz Elite have real-time data and alerts?

Yes. Its current official feature list includes real-time data, extended-hours coverage, email/push alerts, and notifications when new stocks match filters. Compare Elite separately from the free service.

Why consider Gapperz as a Finviz alternative?

Gapperz brings preset scanning, linked company context, charts, focus lists, and alerts into a connected equities research routine. The public tour lets you explore those steps together. Pro adds saved custom scans and AI research.

Can screening and scanning work together?

Yes. A screen can define the universe you want to study, while a scanner follows changing conditions and alerts support specific monitoring questions. The scanner-versus-screener guide demonstrates each role with a worked example.

Can I import Finviz filters automatically?

Gapperz does not provide a Finviz filter importer. Record the definitions behind your filters, choose a relevant preset, and use Pro's saved custom scans for your own combinations. Check the session and denominator when comparing results.
